2020 strategic planning of ISI-SIR
Strategic planning is an organization’s process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. Under the current leadership, Ibnu Sina Institute aims to maximise the benefits of research by advancing fundamental knowledge and beyond to contribute to better public policy, economic prosperity, social cohesion, community identity, and the quality of life. The role of Science and Technology in the industry and society are key themes of the institute. Powered by leading experts, Ibnu Sina Institute coordinates and aligns the resources towards multi and inter-disciplinary research activities through creativity and innovation supported by strategic partnerships with key universities and industries. Together, Ibnu Sina Institute is embarking on vital research relevant areas: Advanced Functional Materials for Green Technology; Green Separations Science and Technology; Laser Technology; Engineering & Industrial Mathematics; Big Data Computing and Engineering; Oleo Chemical and Lipid Engineering; Halal Science & Islamic Jurisprudence. Building on an excellent foundation, Ibnu Sina Institute is now driven by 6 Research Centres that merged to capitalise expertise that will substantially influence the society in the coming years. Ibnu Sina Institute brings together researchers and experts from multidisciplinary backgrounds that span several traditional sciences and engineering disciplines in-line with UTM’s aspiration to be a world top 50 research-intensive university. These Research Centres are responsible for promoting and engaging research actively; development, consultancy, and training activities in their expertise areas, addressing Ibnu Sina Institute and geared to contribute to the University, Industry, Society, and the Country.

The Malaysian Journal of Fundamental and Applied Sciences (MJFAS) (formerly known as Journal of Fundamental Sciences (2005-2011), ISSN: 1823-626X) is a refereed research journal of IIS-SIR.
CSNano Technologies Sdn Bhd, Synapse Innovation Sdn Bhd, HA Southern Global Sdn Bhd, and Myhims Solutions PLT were incorporated to operate as the commercial arm of ISI-SIR, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The venture was in line with the UTM’s call for greater commercial involvement by higher education institutions. As UTM spin-off companies, CSNano Technologies Sdn Bhd, Synapse Innovation Sdn Bhd, HA Southern Global Sdn Bhd, and Myhims Solutions PLT key focus are now to engage with community and industry as part of its drive entrepreneurship ecosystem of ISI-SIR.
Since 2008, Ibnu Sina Institute plays host to regular seminars by experts and high-profile presenters. The topics range widely but are always engaging. As well as being attended by staff and students of UTM, these seminars are open to the public.
Ibnu Sina Institute is the secretariat for I’M Research Consortium (Indonesia-Malaysia Research Consortium), the Indonesia-Malaysia network of research-intensive universities and institution, working together to foster institutional innovation through research-inspired teaching and learning, student mobility, connecting our students and staff, and wider advocacy for internationalisation.
